Story
The Coronavirus Outbreak has affected us all, but some more than others. I will be donating all funds to Direct Relief, a global charity that is coordinating with public health authorities, non-profit organisations and businesses in the US, China and globally to provide personal protective equipment and essential medical items to health workers responding to the coronavirus outbreak.
I wanted to choose a global charity as this is a global pandemic as well as this being the first time in my memory that the world has been affected by the same situation. I also wanted to choose a charity targeted at helping health workers who are on the front line fighting the outbreak and saving lives.
The stories of health workers working 12 hour shifts without the correct protective kit are heartbreaking and even if I could only raise enough money to set up just one nurse or doctor with the correct protective kit then I would consider this challenge worth it.
I am doing this challenge in partnership with Campbell Lutyens who have committed to matching any donation, up and until they reach their target of £100,000
Here is a little more about Direct Relief from their website:
"Direct relief is working in overdrive to get protective gear and critical care medications to as many health workers as possible, as quickly as possible, with emergency deliveries leaving daily for medical facilities across the U.S."
"Direct Relief is coordinating with public health authorities, non-profit organisations and businesses in the U.S. and globally to provide personal protective equipment and essential medical items to health workers responding to coronavirus (COVID-19)."
"Direct Relief is also staging personal protective equipment with regional response agencies across the world, including in the Caribbean and South America through the Pan American Health Organisation."
