My name is Nick Gadsby and I have been selected to go abroad for 12 months in September of this year, which I am really looking forward to doing. I will be going to Guyana to teach science and maths up to secondary school or GCSE standard. The schools in Guyana are in great need of secondary school teachers, due to teacher being entised away to other countries by better wages and conditions. I will be teaching either near the capital of Georgetown, or deep in the heart of the rainforest, either of these projects will be extremely rewarding. Many of the schools have very little in the way of facilities. Having been on a selection course in February I now need to raise £3950, to go on this once in a life time experience. I will be taking thr role of the teacher, which will be something I am really looking forward to, however I am quite nervous about this.

Guyana, is a little known country in South America, which few people have heard of. The country itself has a diverse, and varied culture. Guyana been the only English speaking country in South America, makes the country truely unique. It has been untouched by tourism and therefore make it a challenge to get around, and this is what appealed to me, this truely different type of lifestyle to my own. Living and working in the country, will give me a exceptional in sight into the country and its diverse culture, something which I am looking forward too. By going away for a year, Project Trust, beleive that this is a good chance to get emersed into the culture and the project, in comparsion with other gap year organisations which only provide a few months
