Creative Hero Day leads the fight for creativity & creative voices of children & young people. From schools to businesses, we invite supporters to talk about creativity & share stories of Creative Heroes, raising vital funds to change lives together.

Story

Sneinton in Nottingham has some of the highest concentrations of children living in workless and low income families meaning that children and young people face high degrees of poverty of opportunity and very few chances to participate in arts and culture.

Creative Hero Day is The Mighty Creatives’ annual celebration of creativity in schools and communities. At this year’s Sneinton Rock’n’Roll Extravaganza on 12 October, we’ll be raising funds to provide opportunities for local children and young people by celebrating the work of Father Tyson, a local vicar in 1959 who stands out as one of the creative heroes of Sneinton.

He had the rare ability to listen to the voices of the children and young people he met and instilled a pride in their place and a place in their own history. As David Davis, one young man of the time said to us, ‘He enabled me to say, instead of being ashamed, I’m proud to say I come from Sneinton’.

You can help us celebrate the legacy of Father Tyson and provide new opportunities for culture and creativity of young people of Sneinton in 3 ways:

* Attending the Extravaganza on 12 October
* Contributing to the book which documents Father Tyson’s work
* Supporting the ongoing arts and culture workshops programme at the church.

The Extraganza will be held on Saturday 12 October from 6pm at Stephens Church in Sneinton and hosted by the 'Hosts with the Mosts' DJ MCMC and The Dame. We’ll be hosting bands, singers and acts including Revival Dance, Donna Briscoe-Greene, The Andy Dawson Experience and PASTE. all held together by our resident DJ Steve.

If you’d like to help inspire the young men and women of Sneinton, so that they too can become the Creative Heroes of their own days you do that by contributing to or sharing our campaign.

All funds raised by this campaign will be shared equally between St. Stephen’s Church and The Mighty Creatives so that we can all transform the lives of children and young people through offering them new opportunities to engage in arts and culture.
