I love Eurovision, and I'm sad that it’s not happening this year.

I work at Stonewall, I speak Russian, I’m queer and I love Europop… so I decided to create my own Russian Eurovision song in lockdown and raise money for akt.

With the help of brilliant friends (thank you Jamie, Grace and Katya!), I've created Свобода / Freedom.

I'm so lucky that I've got a flat to live in, and I can dance around making songs and silly videos. That’s not the case for so many young LGBTQ+ people right now.

And now more than ever, we need to support the most marginalised people in our community.

Lots of young people come out as LGBTQ+ to their families and are embraced and supported. akt is there for those who aren’t. The lockdown means many young LGBTQ+ people may be forced to live in vulnerable and hostile environments, perhaps stuck inside with families who don't accept who they are.

Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports.  24% of homeless young people identify as LGBTQ+.

akt exists to support these young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, and it's vital that they receive funds during this extremely difficult time.

If you enjoyed the song and video and you're able to donate, please do.

Thank you
