Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Update - Rachel, the organiser of this event has reported that:
47 walkers took part. Minus 11 windchill was recorded. Very icy conditions. 5 hours and 20 minutes to complete. Very, very sore feet and legs but well worth it!!
A huge thank you from all of us at the Swindon Down's Syndrome Group. Thank you for braving the weather, the sore feet and legs and the sleep deprivation. A special thank you to Rachel - You're the best!
On Sunday 9th Jan starting at 10pm teams of Police Officers, Pcso's, Special Constables, Police Staff, a TA regiment and the Fire and Rescue Service will be walking the Ridgeway. They will be walking from Avebury to Barbury Castle and then back down to Avebury. A TA Jack Wagon will be going along to give bodily support of the liquid kind! The TA will also lead the group and bring up the rear to prevent anyone losing their way. It's approx. 13 miles of cross country hiking in the dark & cold of a January night. They plan on it taking around 4 hours - depending on the weather.
Each individual walker is either making a donation or getting sponsorship for the Walk. The National Trust are giving the use of their car park in Avebury as an inkind donation.
The money raised will be going towards funding the 2011 Salamander Fire Service Course for 16 young people with Down's Syndrome from the Swindon Down's Syndrome Group. Any extra money raised will be put towards future courses.
Please help us to show our gratitude for their support but making a donation.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone of the walkers and organisers for taking part in this event. Keep safe and good luck.
