I’m running the Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday 8th March for Arthur Rank Hospice in memory of my lovely brother who lost his life to skin cancer a few years ago. After developing a spot on his ear, my brother was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma and he was given just a couple of weeks to live, he died 6 weeks later and spent his final 5 days in the hospice. The care Kevin received and us as a family in those final days was truly remarkable. In order for others to also receive palliative care at the hospice, it is reliant on donations.
Having only ever run 10k previously, I was persuaded to sign up for the Cambridge half (secretly hoping when I logged on it would be sold out, but to my disappointment it wasn't and hovered over the confirm button for ages!) so training for me commenced at the end of November and I’m finding it extremely tough. I hadn't really appreciated just how tired and lifeless it would make me feel after the long runs of recent weeks and came close to giving up a couple of times. I'm sure my nearest and dearest and my work colleagues look forward to me talking about something other than running. I can't wait to see the back of my trainers, lucozade, energy gels, eating chicken and welcome the return of some high heeled shoes and actually having a life again :-). As a child I had a serious accident which resulted in a broken neck and being paralysed down my right side for a while, so my body has had enough of pounding the streets as there are some old injuries resurfacing, but I will keep going and WILL complete it! Apart from the above - I'm just loving it haha :-)
Any donations for this charity that's so very close to my heart would be appreciated immensely, as the pain I'm feeling running this is nothing in comparison to those receiving care at Arthur Rank Hospice. Even if it’s just £1 it will make all this very worthwhile. Thank you so much for all your kindness and support. Much love - Nic xxx
