Nic’s 2022 Walking Challenge · 1 July 2022

The Tabor Centre was founded in 1990 with the objective of helping adults with physical disabilities, and providing respite for their full time family carers. Daytime care is provided in an environment that enables them to participate in anything from socializing to educational classes. By employing tutors and professional carers we build a relationship of mutual respect allowing staff to identify individual needs, guiding members to maintain and develop skills to enable them to re-integrate into their communities once more. Activities on offer range from literacy and numeracy, to drama, music, craft, gym visits, wheelchair dancing, relaxation and group therapy, walking and exercise groups. Also offered outside core hours is a Cooking Club and a Saturday Club, pub quizzes and discos. Our purpose built fully wheelchair accessible building acts as a hub with access to equipment including hoists, and exercise equipment. The services of a chiropodist a physiotherapist and various other health and beauty therapists are also available. While our core support is for those with a physical disability we also provide opportunities for those with a learning disability to get involved with activities either by learning a new skill or helping others in the group that are less able. We aim to increase confidence, improve social skills thus giving members the opportunity to enjoy a hobby or get involved in a project interacting with others, and making new friends.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be walking a total of 1000 steps in July

1000 steps to some will not be a lot, but for me will be a big challenge

I have cerebral palsy and am wheelchair bound   I have personal training every week at home with Jon (J-Hive Fitness) my Personal Trainer,  and my fitness levels have gone from strength to strength. Jon has done a lot of work on my walking with my frame and my distance & stamina is improving so much.  So I have decided to put this to some good, and raise money by doing a walking challenge.

For the last 27 years I have attended the Tabor Centre in Braintree, Essex.   It is a day centre I go to every week, 4 days a week and I get to do so many different activities including cooking, crafting, fitness, nights out, wheelchair dancing and much more

The money I raise will be a great boost for the centre who rely heavily on grants and funding to be able to provide the care & service that they do, which benefits so many people like myself.

Thank you again for your donation it means so much to me and all at Tabor Centre
