Big thanks for the donations folks very generous x
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Our little girl Leah (2) was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in June 2010 this is probably due to the fact that when we had our routine 20 week scan it was picked up that Leah had to much fluid and cysts on her brain. She was born 5 weeks premature and only weighed 4lb 14oz.....tiny!
Altough Leah was alot slower reaching her milestones apart from that she wasn't showing any other signs that there was something wrong. It only became an issue when Leah wasn't showing any interest in walking .It was a long process to get the doctors to refer Leah to a specialist but finally in April 2010 we met with the neurologist and he sent Leah for a MRI & brain scan and from that we were told she had CP.
Leah was then asigned with a physio (she was brilliant) she gave us lots of equipment to help with her excercises. Leah also has to wear splints & special shoes to help with her walking. Which makes shoe shopping very difficuilt and there are only certain shoes that fit the splints.
But unfortunately this still is not enough and Leah continues to struggle, she trips over a lot on a daily basis. Both Leah's feet are very turned in and she walks on her tip toes which means her posture has been effected and in time will worsen and cause her alot more problems in the future.
As parents we naturally just want whats best for Leah so we decided to do our own research for private treatment for CP and found that there was a very sucsessful operation in the states, we sent off our application and had to wait for a response. We found out on the 12th March 2011 that Leah is a suitable candidate and the operation will be life changing for her.
Quote from hospital " If Leah has the surgery we expect that she will be able to run and participate in recreational sports and fitness activites"
For us this is more than we could ever hope for to see Leah leading a more "normal" life.
The operation costs £40,000 + and the NHS will not help with funding. Any donation giving is greatly appreciated and would mean the world to us.
Many Thanks
Richie, Nicola & Leah x
