Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Two months ago our lives were turned upside down. A visit to A&E for a poorly knee resulted in my gorgeous little boy being hospitalised and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. At just two years old, and no family history, this was an enormous shock to us.
Two months on, we’re all starting to get our heads around managing Will’s diabetes. At the beginning, having to inject my boy four times per day and regularly monitor his blood sugars seemed like a daunting, difficult task. However, he has taken it in his stride and makes looking after him easy. I can’t even begin to describe how well he has adapted to life as a diabetic.
Since his diagnosis, my husband and I have been researching new technologies and alternative treatments for diabetes and have come across Diagbetes UK. This, alongside drunken conversations with my friend who completes marathons every other weekend, made me want to do something to support the charity and, ultimately, go towards improving the treatments available to my son in the future.
So I’m doing it. Lazy, food-loving Nicola is no more. Fit, dedicated Nicola is running for Diabetes UK. I’m running for my son and for everyone out there dealing with Diabetes.
