BUPA Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I have set up this page to raise money for Alzheimers by completing the Plymouth Half Marathon which was on the 24th of May 2009 and the  Great North Run on the 20th September 2009.

I completed the Plymouth Half Marathon in the time of 2.05.18 and came 1932 out of 4000 overall. In my category, senior ladies, I came 185 out of 630.

I completed the Great North Run in the time of 2.07.22. I was doing well until the 9th mile then my legs turned into jelly. Bit disappointed  I didnt beat my PB but due to injury and having shin splints starting the race and having no training for 3 weeks before, it was a pretty good effort.

I came 15700 out of 54000!!!! 7629 in my age group, 3498 in my gender category, 1889 in my age group and gender position.5km- 27.20 mins, 10km- 57.24 mins,  15km- 01.28.26hr.

Thanks to all that have supported me and if you have not sponsored I would greatly appreciate all donations, thank you. It doesn't matter how little or much it is. I understand a lot of you are poor poor students like me, so if all you can offer is £1 that would mean soo much to me.

As part of my nursing degree, I have worked in wards where I have seen the effects of Dementia affecting patients and both family and friends. It can be really upsetting to see, which is why i have chosen to run for Alzheimers, the money raised goes towards care for those that suffer from the disease and also towards further research so hopefully one day they will find a cure.

I have been training since January,  training has been up and down due to finding time when on placment, illness and injury I currently have shin splints and have not run since I ran the Richmond Park 3 Mile Time Trial on the 29th August 2009, where I beat my Personal Best by 23 seconds and came 76th out of 146 (i was running against both men and women).

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor me now!
