I’m passionate about music and particularly making it available and accessible to children from a young age as I know it has the potential to transform lives. That’s why I’m running in the Hackney Half Marathon to raise money for Gallions Music Trust.

The trust aims to improve, through the power of music, the lives and life chances of children living on and around the Winsor Park Estate, a highly deprived area in the London Borough of Newham by supporting a unique education programme at Gallions Primary School. At Gallions, all children from the age of six learn a stringed instrument and music is integrated into the curriculum.

Through this approach, children develop self-confidence, the ability to listen and work effectively in a group – attributes that set them up for the future whether they go on to study music or
not.

To maintain this programme requires funding outside of the regular education budget, hence the trust. By sponsoring me in the Hackney Half you’ll be directly helping the young
musicians of Gallions Primary School as well as making me feel the aches and pains of my training efforts have all been worthwhile.
