am completing the Three Peaks Challenge in July with
Carnival RAG and I am raising money for an admirable charity, CLIC Sargent. Today, 11 children and young people will be diagnosed with cancer. When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help. They will provide a specialist package of support which has been tailored to each young cancer patient and their family. 

No child or young person should have to face cancer alone - I have seen a family member go through cycles of chemotherapy and battle cancer and I can personally understand that support during treatment is essential. Raising money for a charity which focuses on providing support for those young people whose childhood has been impacted means a lot to me.

Your donation will contribute to the funding of clinical,
practical and emotional support for both the children and young
people diagnosed with cancer and their families; funding play specialists, nurses and social workers. CLIC Sargent also gives financial aid and support to those diagnosed, including both grants and benefits
information. 

Cancer is a daunting time for children and young people
diagnosed, and can be straining for their families; this commendable charity offers the support they need. CLIC Sargent introduced free 'Home from Home' accommodation close to specialist hospitals, so that families can be near to their children during treatment. CLIC Sargent aims to ensure that families can be together as much as possible, this is enabled by outstanding care professionals. Further, this charity has set up a digital peer-to-peer community for young people (16-24) who have or have had cancer - this charity promotes togetherness and aims to increase the strength and determination of these young people.

None of this would be possible without donations from
kindhearted people like you. CLIC Sargent can only provide and reach out to 2/3 young people affected by cancer. With your help and donations it will be possible to extend the use of these amazing support services and networks:

•   £15 could pay for one copy of CLIC Sargent’s DVD to help families
where a child or young person has died of cancer to understand and cope with
their grief.

•   £25 could help pay for an hour of a CLIC Sargent Nurse’s time, so
that they can coordinate clinical and non-clinical care for children with
cancer, to maximise the amount of time they can safely spend at home, and ensure that treatments can be given closer to home where possible.

•   £50 could pay for three hours of a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist’s
time, so that they can help a child prepare for and cope with treatment, by using models, toys and photos to explain what will happen.

•   £75 could help pay for three hours of a social worker’s time. They
will aim to meet children and young people with cancer, and their families, soon after diagnosis and help them to understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer, through treatment and beyond.
