Eating Disorder Awareness Week · 25 February 2018
I am raising awareness in aid of Beat charity during 'Eating Disorders Awareness Week.' This is running from February 26th until Sunday 4th March.
I currently work on the Naomi Unit at The Retreat hospital, which specialises in caring for females with eating disorders.
Eating disorders are complex mental illnesses and can affect anyone, no matter what their age, gender or background are. Over 1.25 million men and women in the UK are affected by eating disorders.
Beat is a charity which provides self-help support through a number of different projects such as helplines, online services, support groups and emotional overeating support groups.
In support of Beat and to consistently raise awareness towards such a complicated and severe mental health disorder, the Naomi unit are planning a 5 day event which will include the whole of The Retreat hospital. The unit will run a 'Silly Sock Day,' 'Blue for Beat,' 'Cookie and Cake sale' and also offer the opportunity across the hospital for online quizzes, presentations and posters to raise awareness of eating disorders from those currently recovering from one.
Any donation is a step towards research and support for those who have, or who are caring for someone with an eating disorder.
We hope that the week will be success and everyone involved has fun along the way. We will keep you updated on the awareness week as we begin!
