Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Cancer is a horrible disease that seems to touch everyone, be it a personal battle with it, or a friend/family member fighting it. Knowing that there are charities out there who can provide support, not only financial, but more importantly emotional, can make the difference between survival or losing the battle.

The four of us (five including our driver Wrighty) have all been touched by it in one way or another and we therefore unfortunately have a very close relationship with the disease.

Unfortunately, that relationship came one step closer, with the recent news that Lynette's (Nigel's much much better half) breast cancer had unfortunately returned. This of course was devastating news which has hit everyone extremely hard, but the strength of character and absolute determination to fight on is something that's in Lynette and Nigel's DNA, so the fight continues.

Breast Cancer Care were/have been fantastic with their care of Lynette and this has driven us to undertake some kind of a challenge and raise some much needed funds for the charity.

With all this in mind, on 21st June we're going to be attempting to finish the Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours. This involves climbing the highest peak in England (Scarfell Pike), Wales (Snowdon) and Scotland (Ben Nevis). It consists of 26 miles horizontal distance and 3000m of vertical ascent. If it wasn't difficult enough, the 24 hours also includes the driving time between the mountains!

Anyone who has attempted it knows the challenge ahead and training has already started in earnest. Anyone who knows us, knows that as life long rugby players, rugby has taken its toll on knees and joints, so we are all under no illusion that this is going to be a tough ask.

Finally, we're not normally ones to be asking for donations or sponsorship, so the fact that we're setting up a just giving page and asking for exactly that hopefully shows how seriously we're taking this.

Many thanks in advance

Nigel, Shaun, Gareth and Steve
