Isobel Capelin is raising money for Movember
In memory of Nigel Capelin
Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding over 1,300 projects, changing the way health services reach and support men. Movember is taking on 3 of the biggest issues facing men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. Movember is for everyone, not just for men.

Story

Nigel Edwin Capelin was born in March 1956, and passed away suddenly on February 4th 2022 at 65 years old. He was less than 2 months off receiving his state pension... As we near the one year anniversary of his death, this page is dedicated to raising money towards men’s health, in the hopes it will not only prevent future deaths but also support men in feeling confident going to their doctors when they experience symptoms of illness.

Here's a little bit more about our dad:

He went to Essex University and studied Government and Sociology, During his time at uni, where many hijinks ensued, including hitchhiking through Greece and stealing food from neighbouring student flats.

He and our mum met when they were both part of the same sports club in Chiswick and he obviously fell smitten instantly. After (unsuccessfully) trying to invite himself to her birthday dinner, she eventually agreed to let him take her on a date. He showed up with a dozen red roses and she rightfully thought - what a poser. But they fell in love and married in 1986, welcoming Evelyn a year later and Isobel in 1991.

From 1997-2010, dad worked at Charlton Athletic Football Club. As Deputy Chief Executive, he oversaw most of the financial and operational duties, and was the go-to person to 'meet and greet' the opposition's management team on match days.

Whenhe left Charlton, one fan wrote the following on the message boards:

"One of those faceless individuals that has beavered away behind the scenes over the years with invaluable input. I, along with 95% of Addicks(I asume), wouldn't know him if he came up and said hello."

This summed him up pretty perfectly - despite being incredibly hardworking, and commuting 3+ hours a day from the other side of London, he never wanted to be in the spotlight. Then, after he died, one other person said,

"Would often enjoy a pint with him when Floyd's was called Floyd's, great company and one very clever man"

Although not always an easy man, he was kind, generous, intelligent and oh so goofy. He always said his proudest parenting influence was raising us on Monty Python.

"One day, lad, all this will be yours." "What, the curtains?"

With love, his daughters Evelyn and Isobel
