Bishop's Stortford Youth Project provides safe spaces, such as Thirst Youth Cafe, and opportunities for local young people to meet and make friends, reducing loneliness, and to have fun, increasing happiness, health and wellbeing. We journey with young people and WELCOME-ENGAGE-ENCOURAGE-EMPOWER

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page - hopefully you can help Stef and I raise some money to keep a great community youth service running.

As part of community outreach for the EHBPA, I first met with Jake, manager at the Thirst Cafe during lockdown early in 2021. I was struck by his enthusiasm and passion for the project but also his willingness to learn about our fledgling* organisation. He mentioned how important the revenues from donations were to Thirst Cafe as it costs around 100k per year to run. Jake also described the impact  they make to 11-18 year olds offering great trips and events either low cost or free to the kids.

It was clear Jake was looking forward to the summer and getting back to normality helping local young people make the transition towards adulthood in a safe supported environment.

We talked about the challenges to mental health and wellbeing during the pandemic and the impact on young people especially , which really resonated so on behalf of the EHBPA I agreed to lend a hand.

Shortly after that meeting, Stef and I spoke about the Thirst Cafe and how great compared to Hedingham youth club! we went to back in the 90s. He was onboard with raising some money ...until I mooted Skydiving .

I got off to a bad start when I used the word "fledgling" (which apparently cunjoured images of a weak flightless bird falling from a nest)  but anyway after some perculation, 8 months and a few wobbles along the way, we are now committed to a jump next month.

Please help us reach our target for a great, youth focussed community organisation.

BSYP provides access to experienced youth workers who are positive role models and can provide advice and support, if required, to help young people learn life skills, develop their potential, gaining greater independence as they transition to adulthood.
