London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·

Hospice care eases the physical and emotional pain of death and dying. Letting people focus on living, right until the end. But too many people miss out on this essential care. Hospice UK fights for hospice care for all who need it, for now and forever.

Story

I remember telling my mum that I would run the London Marathon when I was six or seven. For the next few years, I would remind her of my plan when it was on television and when I heard the BBC London Marathon music. It is fair to say that my ambition was put on hold for a short while (between the ages of 16 and early 30s to be specific), but I have been desperate to run it for the past few years.

I have entered unsuccessfully for the past 6 years, but this is the first year I have tried through the charity route.

I have never run a marathon before and do not plan on running any more! This is the pinnacle of my physical challenge ambition!

Hospice UK was an obvious choice for me to support. Since October 2015, we have lost my mum and my father-in-law, both spending their last days in different hospices. The support that both received, along with the support our family had on an ongoing basis has been amazing. It has already inspired me to push Ashgate Hospice as our corporate charity partner at work, which we are successfully running into its second year now.

Losing my mum and Len have been two of the most difficult times for my family. Without the support of the hospices, those times would have been even more challenging. This is my attempt to give something back.

Every bit of support is so welcome. Thank you!
