Story
Last year Niki did the Sydney Skinny, a NAKED 900m swim to raise funds urgently needed to help treat our dear friend Amy Watts who had grade 3 colon cancer. This year we've managed to talk another of Amy's friends, Julia Etherington, into doing it, to raise money for Hold Amy's Hand and Bowel Cancer UK's Never Too Young Campaign.
Hold Amy’s Hand was formed in January 2015 to raise money for much-loved journalist Amy Watts’ life-saving bowel cancer surgery. After a ten day international fundraising marathon, supported by celebs like Simon Cowell, Gary Linekar, Matt Goss, Barbara Windsor and publisher Richard Desmond, we reached our target of £100K.
Sadly Amy passed away on March 5th 2015, too weak for the surgery. Her last wishes were that the money raised would go towards a bowel cancer charity and raising awareness in young people. She also was terrified people would forget her (as if) so thanks to your kindness you're honouring her memory, and helping others in the process.
In Amy's memory, Hold Amy’s Hand continues to fundraise in support of Bowel Cancer UK, as a partner to their Never Too Young campaign. We also raise awareness of bowel cancer in young people.
If you want to do some fundraising for the Hold Amy's Hand partnership with Bowel Cancer's Never Too Young campaign, feel free to join us at the Sydney Skinny...?!
You can also hold your own events in Amy's memory. For more details go to: http://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/bowelcanceruk/holdamyshand?utm_id=38
