Morrisons Great Edinburgh Run 2015 · 19 April 2015 ·

We support Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Children and Young People by giving seriously ill children and their families the extra support they need when facing a life-changing hospital visit. We speed up recovery, take away fear and provide reassurance, distraction and fun every step of the way.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most people know, my darling daughter Evie's arrival into the world was not conventional. She burst onto the scene 3.5 weeks early and desperately poorly. Unable to swallow as her oesophagus didn't connect to her stomach, without treatment she would have drowned on her own saliva and she was transferred to the Sick Kids for surgery when she was just a day old.

The care Evie received there was phenomenal. Her surgery was luckily really straightforward and successful and she recovered very quickly, for someone so tiny. All the staff, from nurses, to consultants were incredible.

In addition, the care and support we received as terribly shell shocked new parents was amazing. Even though we live in the city, we were provided with a room in PJ's Loft (the parent's accommodation). To have somewhere to go to recharge and catch our breath, but still be near our little girl was so helpful.

It's impossible to say thank you for what they've done for us, but I'd like to do something and since running is what I do, I thought I might dust off the old runners and hit the streets again.

So for the last few months I've taken to pounding the very hilly streets of Edinburgh, often pushing Evie in our jogging buggy, hoping I'll get fit enough to scrape myself round the distance (which has increased from 10km to 10 miles!!!). To make it extra hard, I've also been eating lots of cake (because that's what you do when you're a mummy). I feel confident enough that I'll finish now to ask for donations to my cause!
