Tommy & Friends

London to Paris bike ride · 7 December 2012
Starting on the May 30th Nikki and Adam Heims, Sam Wightman, Stephen Loftus, Simon Thorp and Jim Pearce will be cycling from London to Paris to raise money for 'Together we can' - fundraising partnership for Evelina Children's Hospital which is part of Guy's and St Thomas' London.
We will be cycling 3 days back to back, approx 80 miles per day and totalling 240 miles!
Why the Evelina?....
Tommy Heims (son of Adam and Nikki) owes his life to the staff of the hospital. Retrieved up to the Evelina from his local hospital in an induced coma at 11 days old it was the staff of the hospital that saved his life and subsequently went on to diagnose the problem.
From the outset the doctors were fairly certain that he had a life threatening viral infection. The problem was that without knowing which virus, it was difficult to know exactly how he should be treated. He was having bloods taken every hour, he had chest x-rays, heart scans, brain scans, lumbar punctures....you name it, Tommy had it! Tommy was in intensive care for 4 days and a further 3 days in the critical care unit.
Every member of staff could not have been more helpful, more supportive and more informative to us as parents. It struck us that the sheer volume of these people was incredible - no less than 70 people helped save Tommy's life from when he was admitted to his local hospital to the day he was discharged.
Every penny we raise will go towards supporting the Doctors and Nurses at the Evelina and more importantly the equipment used by these amazing people to save our Children's lives.
