Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you are aware, on the 18/09/24 our lives were turned upside down as Paolo received the devastating news that he has an incurable blood cancer called multiple myeloma.

Treatment has already started and he has already completed his first round of intensive chemotherapy, this is one of four cycles and then he will have a stem cell transplant which will consist of his own stem cells.

Thankfully this seems to of been discovered early through a routine CT for potential kidney stones, this routine CT turned into another CT with contract 1 hour later, 2 bone marrow biopsies, an MRI and PET SCAN.. obviously it wasn’t kidney stones and in fact the myeloma affecting the spine - he has two fractured areas on his spine and is required to wear a back brace for 3 months all day, every day.

As a family we are fortunate, Paolo can continue to work on his good days and we have amazing support from family, friends and our amazing NHS.

Paolo is lucky to be taking part in a clinical trial called RADAR - this is intensive treatment that will put him into deep remission to enable him to live a long, “normal” life with routine bloods to check for rising numbers. We are told to think of it as more of a chronic illness rather than the big C. Myeloma is extremely treatable now days with the continuing research funded by these amazing charities.

Paolo will go on to live a long life, myeloma is no longer a death sentence… Paolo is extremely lucky to be considered “standard risk”in the Myeloma world which means he will hopefully respond for longer, the myeloma is less aggressive and remission will hopefully last longer.

All our love
