A team of five volunteers will be running the Vitality 10K London Run to raise funds for Younger People with Dementia who work across Berkshire supporting those under 65 diagnosed with dementia.

Story

Michelle, my amazing sister, was diagnosed with early onset dementia 18 months ago.

Since then, Younger People with Dementia (Berkshire) have been a tremendous support to both Michelle and my two nieces.

Michelle faces challenges on a daily basis and I wanted to help in whatever way I can so have decided to embark on a 10k run.

Now to all you runners out there who say 10k isn't much, it is a long long way for me.  As anyone who knows me well, running is most definitely not my thing but I am coming out of my comfort zone to help YPWD in a small way.

I have managed to 'persuade' Lucy, my fabulous work colleague, to come along with this oldie and together we have started our 10 weeks to 10k training plan.  Neither of us are runners but we are determined to do our best and have fun along the way.

Young Onset Dementia affects people who are 65 and under. It's a progressive disease, with no cure. Those diagnosed may still be in the midst of their career, have a family to support, along with an active social life and plans for the future.  After a diagnosis patients in Berkshire can be referred to a unique charity called Younger People with Dementia. Younger People with Dementia provides unique, age relevant services, activities, workshops and support for both those diagnosed with Young Onset Dementia and their carer, who, in most cases, will be their partner. These services and group based activities help to maintain skills, improve quality of life and bring people together reducing the likelihood of social isolation and loneliness.

Please, please support this great charity to raise vital funds.
