At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Never having sat on a bike for the past 20 years may make you wonder why on earth I would decide to take up this challenge of cycling 440K up the Nile (or at least the banks!) next year.

My mum has Alzheimer's; my Dad is her sole carer. Until I experienced this illness I had no idea the devastating effect it has on both the sufferer and the relatives.

My mum does not remember she has a daughter nor that she has been married to my father for 53 years.... we are strangers in her world who love and care for her but the only memories she now has of her life is up to the age of about 16 living in Dover. It is a confusing world which we enter but do not understand.

The Society has given me so much guidance and solace to be of support and help to both my parents. This is my time to give back and take positive steps to support the charity - for both my Mum and all the other families who are experiencing the same. So thank you for taking the time to read my story and visit my fundraising page.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support, sponsorship and encouragement. Please give what you feel you can and help to make a difference
