LEL is said to be a test of ones mental and physical resilience and while I'm on the road and will have to dig deep, I'll be thinking of my friends Paul Cook and Nigel Shaddick who defy all logic and keep living, challenging themselves and seeking out adventures on a daily basis. They both live life with absolute gusto and have no idea what an endless source of inspiration they are to me!
Paul and Nigel both have mesothelioma, which is a dreadful terminal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos dust and fibres. The cancer usually develops in the lining that covers the outer surface of the body's vital organs. Prognosis is poor, there is NO CURRENT CURE and treatments are limited. The UK has the highest incidence of mesothelioma in the world, with more than 5000 people diagnosed each year. And while research and access to clinical trials are improving, Asbestos cancer research is UNDERFUNDED in the UK.
Which is why, Paul and his wife Jill started their own charity called Erase Meso after Paul was diagnosed in 2017 at the age of 43. Erase Meso works with a team of experts and has been instrumental in raising awareness, raising hope and raising critical funds for research to help find a cure.
I would be so grateful for your support, which will ensure I'll be following Paul's and Nigel's lead in NEVER GIVING UP and to keep going when the going gets tough. Please also take a look at the Erase Meso website to read about their work and Paul's and Nigel's story. Raising awareness is our first priority.
