Story
We are caring for some very special and poorly cats who have come to us. A kind member of the public had been feeding Darwin and notified the branch as he had an injury to his right rear leg.
Darwin’s right rear leg was deformed and unable to be used - curling
inwards into his body. His left eye was severely infected and ulcerated so he
was prescribed antibiotics to reduce the infection to allow for surgery, his
right eye was also scarred from an ulcer which had healed.
He has had to undergo surgery which involved amputating his
entire right leg and also removal of his left eye. It is assumed that Darwin’s deformed leg was the result of a genetic abnormality and his general growth was stunted as a result of this.
In total Darwin’s treatment has cost the branch £1081.79
It is a miracle that Darwin survived for so long on his own and if
it hadn’t been for the kind lady feeding him sadly he may not have made it this
far. Darwin is slowly learning to trust humans and loves nothing more than rib
tickles and head bumps. The vets believe that Darwin is now fully grown and at
a tiny 2 kilos he is around the size of a 4 month old kitten. He is adjusting
extremely well to the comforts of an indoor life after spending the start of
his life fighting for survival.
We also have Ninja. Ninja has a severe skin condition caused by allergies to rice and cereals in cat food along with a severe reaction to fleas. As you can see if is so very sore and it really itches her so much she scratches until she starts to bleed, but still carries on it is really tragic to watch her harm herself in this way.
Ninja needs
this regular medication:
Monthly flea tablet
Monthly Steroid
injection
Special Omega
oil to help her fur grow back
Sometimes antibiotic injection to heal her wounds.
Ninja cannot eat regular cat food and must have a Veterinary diet that is hypoallergenic along with some tuna & chicken.
So far we have spent £331.02 but she will need on going care for a lot longer.
We receive no government funding and are volunteers. If you are able to spare just a couple of pounds to help Ninja and Darwin, or whatever you can, we would be so grateful.
If we are lucky enough to raise above our target, any extra funds will go towards helping other cats in the care of the branch.
Thank you xx
