Thames Bridges Challenge 2021 · 11 September 2021 ·
My friend's son, (like family.. my nephew!) was unfortunately diagnosed with Leukemia in February this year. It was a shock to the family, that this spirited, truly joyful child could have to endure such a fate. However, with courage and determination the family and Ishaan himself have truly inspired the community around them with their positive and proactive approach. They have chosen to really contribute to the community around them and support those that lent them the support they needed. GREAT ORMOND STREET hospital is a huge part of that journey and we all want to say our thanks in our small way..so we are raising money for them by taking on this 25km trek across London. Coming together to say thanks and celebrate all those they help each and every day.
Please see Bijal's story below:
On February the 1st 2021 my 4 year old son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukaemia. No one could have ever prepared our family for this journey. Within seconds, our lives totally changed and over the last 6 months we have spent many days and nights at Great Ormand Street Hospital. As I sit back, reflect and prepare for the journey ahead I feel extremely lucky that my son was and continues to be treated at GOSH. GOSH is one of the finest children’s hospitals in the world and I can tell you, truly from my heart, that it is an incredible place. I can only share with you all my experience, but over the last 6 months all the staff that I have come across at GOSH have been extremely kind, understanding and caring. Being diagnosed in the middle of a pandemic did not alter our care in anyway and I will always be grateful to everyone at GOSH for all their care and support. Childhood cancer is different from adult cancer, and it really does need its own specialised research. Infact all childhood illnesses need their own specialist research and for this to happen, GOSH needs funding and support. By participating in this Trek and by sponsoring our team you will be helping GOSH: - Further their research into the children’s health- Support families and children- Rebuild and refurb their hospital- Purchase new and advanced life saving equipmentI am able to partake in this walk today with my friends and family because GOSH provides us with world class care and treatment. I hope that the money we raise through this challenge will help them continue the work they do and help them support other children and families who are diagnosed with a childhood illness.Thank you to the walking team for all the support. 💙Bijal x
