We are the UK's first law centre, set up in 1970 to provide access of justice to communities and people who can't afford a lawyer. We specialise in housing, asylum, criminal defence, welfare benefits and employment providing both legal aid and low cost legal services.

Story

Thank you for considering a donation to the North Kensington Law Centre in memory of our dad, Henryk (Henry/ Harry) Podlewski, who passed away in December 2022 aged 75.

The NKLC and its work to support those in need of legal aid and advice meant a great deal to Dad. He moved to London in the 1970s and started working for social justice causes close to his heart, which included the newly formed law centres. He worked at NKLC and other outlets to support people with legal advice and representation for nearly 50 years.

About NKLC:

NKLC is proud to be known as the first ever law centre in England. Their story began in 1970, when they saw the need to campaign and gain justice for some of the most poor and disadvantaged in the North Kensington communities. Many other law centres subsequently opened in London and beyond.

Whilst the needs of the local communities may have changed, the challenges are still there. NKLC continues to adapt and work with those who need access to legal services and cannot afford a private law firm. They give an alternative and very often better service than private solicitors.

Funding for legal aid is complex and continues to be under threat, so your support in Dad’s memory will help the NKLC to continue their work to provide fair access to legal advice across a range of issues. Find out more on their website, https://nklc.org.uk.

Thank you.
