Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After volunteering for Relief Work interpreting, doing Mudouts and rebuilding houses in northeast Japan for a year after the 2011 disasters, I returned home with lung problems and an MRI Scan revealed a tumour in my right lung. I had been exposed to Fukushima Radiation, Asbestos dust in the air, and various dangerous building materials during that time. The surgeons were 90% sure I had cancer, because it had grown by 90% within a year, and they then removed one third of my right lung with the tumour. A biopsy showed that the tumour was benign and had actually been caused by Bacterial Pneumonia which I got during the bitterly cold winter of 2011/12 while serving in Japan.
Although very thankful that my life has been spared, several dear friends and relatives have had cancer, and some have died. Even though the Great Wall Trek might be a struggle for me, with only one and two thirds lung capacity, I'm doing this in memory of them all, but especially my Aunt Minnie Hunter, (Bangor - who was. a supporter of Action Cancer) , Alan Ervine, (Rathfriland and Glasgow) Ronnie Johnston, (Ballymena) and Peter Campbell (Carrickfergus) and to raise funds for Action Cancer. I hope you will consider supporting me in this challenging adventure.
