Story
We will be taking part in this year’s ‘Walk for the Children of War’ on the 8th April 2023, held by Muslim Hands. We will be doing the 5km walk whilst fasting in’sha’Allah, in order to raise money for the children affected by war in Rohingya, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Somalia.
Any and all donations are welcome, no matter how big or small.
While we all enjoy this Ramadan in the comfort of our homes with ample food to sustain us each day, there are children all over the world who do not have this privilege. No child should suffer from the long- term effects of hunger, especially in the holy month. This is the unfortunate reality for many Rohingya, Syrian, Yemeni, Palestinian, Afghan and Kashmiri and Somalian children who are suffering in environments of persecution and war. Malnutrition, waterborne diseases and a lack of safe shelter are the daily dangers these children face.
Rohingya:
• Over half of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are children. (UN)
• Rohingya refugees in the camps of Cox’s Bazar are completely reliant on humanitarian aid for their survival. (UN)
Syria:
• The price of food went up by 97% in Syria in 2021. By December 2021, food cost 97% more than it had in December 2020. (WFP)
• There are an estimated 2.8 million IDPs in north-west Syria. 80% of them are women and children.
Yemen:
• In Yemen, 80 per cent of the total population, including 12.4 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance. (UN)
• Half of Yemeni children under 5 years face severe acute malnutrition. (UN)
Gaza:
• 80% of Gazans are dependent on humanitarian assistance. (UNRWA)
• Over 1.3 million Gazans are food insecure. (OCHA)
Here is your chance to make a difference. This Ramadan, we need your help to ensure that these children receive the food they so desperately need. Just £100 can provide one food parcel that will feed a family for an entire month. Each parcel includes staple food for a family of up to 7 members, which works out to 420 meals for the entire month. With basic food items like flour, oil and rice affected by rising inflation, your support is needed more than ever before. Furthermore, by providing just 1 parcel you can gain the reward of up to 210 Ramadan fasts that would normally take us 7 lunar years to fast.
This is based on the following hadith:
The Prophet (saw) said, ’Whoever feeds a person breaking his fast will earn the same reward as him, without anything being lessened from the reward of the fasting person’. [Tirmidhi]
