Story
I am a strong believer that the IronMan brand should - and one day will - be renamed 'IronPerson', or something catchier along those lines. But for now I am incredibly proud to be one of 227 females who will be at the start line of IronMan Ireland in Cork on August 14, alongside 1653 males (the statistics are similar for all IronMan races around the world). So as I attempt to complete my first official IronWoman, at a time when global events are leading to so many people displaced from their homes, it seems only fitting to raise money for those who may be less well represented and supported through their hardships, whose voices may otherwise struggle to be heard.
Women for Refugee Women is a small charity which supports women who are seeking refuge from persecution, including rape and other torture, to rebuild their lives and communicate their own needs and stories. They work in three main ways: to support and empower women seeking asylum; to communicate with wide audiences by telling the stories of refugee women through the media, events and arts projects; and to inform policy makers and politicians about how to build a fairer asylum process.
Sponsorship will be greatly appreciated - anything that you can spare as I know that it is a difficult time for everyone. It will help motivative me through an estimated 15-16 hours (eek) of continuous movement! 3.8k swim, 180k cycle, 42k run..
Thank you,
Nora
