I'm walking 100 miles in November to raise vital funds for Myeloma UK
Two years ago, on the 1 November 2023 I had a bone marrow transplant which offered me a whole new lease of life. Earlier that year I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer affecting over 33,000 people in the UK and amyloidosis, a related serious blood disorder - my only chance of recovery was months of chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant.
2023 was a nightmare year but today I am beyond grateful to feel well, to have energy and to be able to live a full and fulfilled life. I cannot describe how much I appreciate the genius of the medics, scientists and researchers whose ground breaking work has transformed the odds for people with this blood cancer.
I will never be able to thank enough all those people who have offered me support and care over the past few years - the amazing doctors, nurses, medical staff at Kings College hospital, the brilliant staff who supported my recovery including Libby, Max and staff at Fitfor, Clare Moss acupuncture and Fran Pearlman at Sun Rae Chinese herbal medicine - and of course my dear family and friends who have been there throughout.
I'm taking on this challenge to celebrate being alive, and to help fund critical research and support services for those others living with this disease. Together, we can make a real difference.
