North East Glasgow Walk With You

North East Glasgow Walk With You · 26 August 2020
Over lockdown, 1 in 5 people struggled with their mental health, and the sale of alcohol increased by over 40% in the month of June alone. Times are tough for everyone right now. For anyone already facing problems with drugs, alcohol or mental health it can be even harder. That's why staff and volunteers across We Are With You are rallying together to virtually cover the 2,000 mile distance between all of our services across England and Scotland, to show people #wearewithyou and raise funds to help even more people.
50% of the money raised will go to We Are With You nationally, with the other half going to the North East Glasgow service. In Glasgow, the money raised will be used to enhance the wellbeing activities we offer, such as purchasing gardening group equipment, art group materials and sports equipment. As a service, we work with over 400 people across North East Glasgow to access recovery support through one to ones, group-work and wellbeing activities.
To raise £500, staff and volunteers have been inspired by the Proclaimers to walk 500 miles, throughout September, and taking part in a variety of activities. We are planning on learning new photography skills to take 500 photos on our journey to highlight the beauty of Scotland and the benefits of being outdoors during this time, and will create a video at the end of the month to showcase the activities. As a team, we're planning on holding Walk and Talk groups, Staff Hillwalking in the West Highlands, and a team socially distanced 5k (date TBC) which will cover 45 miles. Individually, staff have pledged to run or walk 200 miles - and all donations in support of this will be used to help the people who use our services.
