Story
In 2026 I am taking on three big challenges to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society, a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
I will be completing the AJ Bell Birmingham Great North Run 10k in May, Trek26 in the Peak District in June, and the Belfast Half Marathon in September. This is not just about fitness or personal goals, it is about doing something meaningful in memory of my wonderful Dad, Hugh.
Over the last year I have focused more on my health and fitness, and these events feel like the right way to channel that energy into something that really matters. Training for these challenges has given me purpose and strength, and a way to process grief while doing something positive in Dad’s name. Taking them on feels like a fitting way to honour him while pushing myself beyond my comfort zone.
I am not doing this alone. My sister Joanne will be by my side for all three events, and our sister Laura will be joining us for Trek26. Doing this together makes it even more special. We are united not only as sisters, but as a team determined to keep Dad’s memory alive in a meaningful way. That is why we chose the name Hughie’s Girls. He was so proud of us, and we want to make him proud again.
Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that means so much to our family. Dementia affects not just the person diagnosed, but everyone who loves them. We saw first hand how heartbreaking and relentless the illness can be, and how vital support, research, and awareness are for families going through it. By fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society, we hope to contribute in a small way to a future where fewer families have to experience the pain we did.
I know this is a big challenge, both physically and emotionally, but I am committed to seeing it through. Every pound raised will make a difference, whether that is funding research, providing support to families, or improving care and understanding.
If you can, please consider donating to support Alzheimer’s Society. I will be incredibly grateful for every bit of encouragement and sponsorship along the way.
Thank you for being part of our journey, and for helping us honour our Dad.
With love,
Clare xx
