Rape Crisis England & Wales is the charity working to end sexual violence and abuse. We are the membership organisation for Rape Crisis Centres who deliver specialist services to those affected by sexual violence in England & Wales. Together we aim to educate, influence and make change.

Story

I am Yasmin and I have something to say, something I want all women to join me in, and a message that I believe we can all finally get across if we all work together. I am 16 years old and what you are about to read is my opinion on how something as personal as an underwear choice should never ever be used against anyone - full stop.

This project was started up in response to more than one case of alleged rape or sexual assault where the underwear of the young lady bringing about the court case was used as evidence to potentially demonstrate that if a small / skimpy / lacy type of underwear was worn on that evening then the woman was effectively signalling that she was consenting to sexual contact.

I have started a collaborative project to make and sell statement pieces of gorgeous underwear that leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that my underwear choice is my business and signals nothing other than what I feel like wearing on a day to day basis. I have set up this page for those who don't want to purchase the underwear for whatever reason but still want to contribute to the cause.

We are a group of passionate women (all ages) who hope to reach as many people as possible to continue a very important dialogue that has already been started. Join us and let’s keep the momentum going and bring about an end to our personal clothing choices being used against us as a defence for any kind of unwanted or forced sexual contact. Lets look good while we do it - because why shouldn’t we? We are a not for profit team and hope to raise awareness and funds for organisations that deal directly with survivors of sexual assault and rape.

From talking to many women (and from being women ourselves) we disagree that our underwear defines our sexual desires! There is NEVER a time when a clothing choice should be assumed as sexual consent ever. We wear all kinds of underwear for all kinds of reasons. We will be gathering and sharing reasons with the world for our underwear choices to hammer home that just because our underwear may be small, lacy or pretty it doesn’t mean anything to anyone else but us.

In the case that a person chooses their underwear pre-date with the possibility that maybe they are considering sex later on there may be a variety of reasons that they ultimately decide not to go through with it. As human beings we are entitled to change our minds at any point without the undies choice we made hours ago being assumed as consent later on.

Our underwear choices are not consent and should never be used against us in that way later on.

Some girls shop in lingerie shops like Victorias secrets from the age of 10 or so. It's pretty obvious to most human beings that these children are not signalling consent by their choices so why is this sometimes skewed for older females? Doesn't make sense to me at all.
Make a statement with us and join us all all of the people already protesting to bring about an important change that will end this nonsense forever.
