Story

Paul is the current President of the Rotary Club of Nottingham and 2018 is the clubs Centenary Year. A couple of years ago when thinking about doing a fundraiser in this year he thought it would be a good idea to do a bike ride from John O'Groats to Lands End for a local charity that serves Nottingham and the wider area in the same way as the club has for 100 years.

Although a good idea it also seems a daft idea as June 2017 was the first time Paul had been out on the road on a bike for 22 years with the intention of riding 900+ miles in May 2018. Oh well everybody likes a challenge...

However, help was at hand! Paul has been very lucky that he has friends who are proper cyclists and have helped and mentored him and even more importantly they want to do the ride with him to support the hospital as well.

So a special thank you to Andy Hardy, Adrian Adgar, Rob Jones, Rob Franklin, Yohann Chaigneau and Chris Adams who are also undertaking the ride and providing support.

The Rotary Club of Nottingham has had links to Nottingham Hospitals in the past and one of the first projects the club undertook was to provide a bed for the old General Hospital in 1918.

NHC is having its Big Appeal for the Children's Hospital in 2018 and this is the perfect match for our fundraising efforts in the clubs Centenary year.

The Big Appeal is raising funds for modernising and expanding the parental accommodation in the Children's Hospital which provides an essential resource for parents and carers to be close to their children receiving care and obviously relieve the financial stress families can suffer at these times which is in addition to the emotional stress experienced.

We hope to raise at least £10,000 to pay for the modernisation of one of these units and any more will be a bonus to improve these facilities further.
