Story
Over the past twelve months Nottingham Roller Girls have gone from strength to strength. We are proud to have roped Inspire Nottingham in on our journey.
Inspire Nottingham provide services and support for people with learning disabilities and their vision of wanting individuals to ‘enjoy their life and achieve as much as they are able’ reflects NRG’s own beliefs and hopes for everyone who comes into contact with the team.
As a group we were drawn to this charity not only because of the range of services that they offer individuals in our community; from social groups and weekly meets to structured work preparation and 1:1 support, but because of the excellent and well structured volunteering opportunities that they can offer individuals wanting to work with them. In one year alone some 32 volunteers aged 16-77 gave an unbelievable 6,000 hours of their time.
It’s easy to get bogged down with the doom and gloom of the current climate and for many of us the world of Roller Derby provides us with that little bit of escapism from our daily lives; so when you come across a charity like Inspire Nottingham, it awakens something in you and makes you realise how brilliant life can truly be when we all begin to look out for each other.
So onwards we skate – to Skatemania Preston May 12th, where NRG members new and old will take to the track to face their own personal test. For the seasoned skaters it will be a 26 mile race for a new personal best; for those who had never worn skates before last year, it will be a matter of getting over the finish line at thirteen miles.
But it’ll all be o.k. on the day; we’re in this together.
We Bleed Green.
Will you support us?
