Story

NRM rise to
the Challenge generating a magnificent £7,000 for CHIPS

Six members of the NRM Group led by Managing Director Andrew Ludlow have successfully negotiated the 24-mile long Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge raising close to £7,000 for CHIPS, the gaming industry charity which funds the purchase of powered wheelchairs for children with profound mobility issues.
The money, which was generated courtesy of pledges made by NRM customers, suppliers and industry colleagues, exceeded the original target and sets the company on its way to complete the purchase of two CHIPS chairs by the end of 2018.

Reflecting on the achievement, Andrew Ludlow said. "The challenge was just that! I don’t think those of us that hadn’t done it before quite knew what to expect. Whilst the distance itself was a challenge, the three climbs (and therefore descents!) became harder and harder as we tackled the next peak. What absolutely carried us along was the immense support we have received from many generous individuals and businesses supporting the incredible CHIP’s charity and that
‘Whatever it takes’ mind-set we have as a business .

"I am so delighted to report that we have already exceeded our initial target of £6,000 with the donations and pledges we already have and we now have our sights set on £12,000 and a second wheelchair. The team picked up what are obligatory three peaks scars with blisters, aches and pains, however the award for the most unexpected and (therefore embarrassing) incident goes to Stephen Rainer, who having successfully completed the 24 miles stumbled and ruptured his Achilles tendon an injury that resulted in him taking eight hours to drive home… now that’s commitment."

NRM’s Pete Fagg, added: "When I heard that we were supporting the CHIP’s charity and that our first fundraising event was the three-peaks challenge I immediately threw my hat into the ring. I have to admit my training was non-existent and the evening meal before our challenge, consisting of Paella for two washed down with some of Yorkshire’s finest real ales probably wasn’t the best preparation.  The day was challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Some incredible
scenery, some incredible climbs and some more real ale at the pub before Ingleborough certainly made this a day to remember."

Andrew Ludlow concluded: “I would like to place on record my sincere thanks and congratulations to the team, comprising, Pete Fagg, David Place, Adam Kirkman, Graham Merritt and Stephen Rainer as well as the indefatigable Kelly Roberts who met the team at ten miles - just before the assent of Whernside - and at 16 miles prior to the assent of Ingleborough -  with a car fully laden with fruit, chocolate bars, water plasters and loads of encouragement.  In terms of what’s next for NRM Group, I can confirm that Paul Whitbread our Chairman, is preparing to lead a paddle board expedition on the river Dart from Totnes to Dartmouth a distance of close to ten miles!"
