Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Big date for a big challenge - 23rd April 23.

I am writing to share my exciting news that as Captain of Didsbury G.C. I have taken the challenge  to walk the Three Yorkshire Peaks to help me raise money for the Family Counselling Centre in Altrincham. As many of you know, I have been volunteering for this charity for some time now and I have seen first-hand the incredible impact it has on the lives of families and individuals. The Centre provides essential counselling services and relies on the support of the community to continue its work.

It is not an easy task! The Yorkshire 3 peaks is a demanding 24 mile walk that involves climbing the three highest peaks in Yorkshire; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, with a total ascent of 5,200 ft and estimated waking time of 12 hours. Or as I understand it!... 38.6Km and 1,585 metres ascent...hopefully still 12 hours walking time... but in metric sounds alot more than in imperial!

I can't do it all on my own so I have rallied a group of friends, all from different backgrounds and levels of fitness!  We are a very eclectic team!! ranging from golfers, friends and work colleagues. It will be a true test of our endurance and determination!

However, we are not leaving anyone behind! We will split the walk into two groups. This way, everyone can participate regardless of their physical  fitness level. The walk will start with the first group leaving Horton in Ribblesdale at 7 am in the morning, climbing Pen-y-Ghent and reaching the Ribblehead viaduct by 11 am where the second group will join the first one for the next 8 mile stretch, climbing Wherside following a circular route lasting approximately 3 hours 45 min. The first group will then carry on towards the 3rd and last peak - Ingleborough and should reach Horton in Ribblesdale between 6 pm - 7 pm.

The big date for our challenge is 23rd April 2023. We promise to keep you posted on our progress.  Any contribution, big or small, will make a real difference. Thank you for supporting me in my efforts to raise money for the Family Counselling Centre.

We provide counselling, support groups, drop in sessions & courses for all in our community from the age of 5 years and upwards who need support for their mental and emotional health needs. No complicated restrictive referrals, no prior form filling, no huge financial barrier - simply come & tell us your story & we will do our utmost to provide appropriate timely support. We work mainly in the Trafford Borough of Manchester, but are spreading into Manchester & Salford to meet the needs of those who are being hit by the squeeze on services being felt across the country. Some quotes from our children's service: 'Feeling happier & less anxious. My relationship has changed for the better with my mum. It’s been really good & really helpful' 'I'm meditating every night. I don’t self-harm (five weeks clean!) & I’m a lot happier with my parents & family. I’m less panicky too. I’m happier in myself & being even more open to others. I talk more & have a more positive attitude & have more energy. You have really helped! I was really reluctant to come but I love it & it turned my world upside down'. 'I made friends with Y3 as no-one from Y4 would play with me. Now I have lots of friends, not just Y4. I’ve been kind & generous to others. I share with others. It’s been fun & I’ve learnt new things.
