RifCom Charity Challenge Atlas to Sahara 2012 · 19 October 2012 to 28 October 2012 ·
Hello Everyone!
Tomorrow I embark upon a 4 day, 100km hike across the Atlas Mountains and into the Saharan Desert. The aim of the hike is to raise funds for the Rif Community Foundation (RIFCOM).
RIFCOM is a non-profit charitable organisation founded in Gibraltar with a vision to bridge the gap between us and our neighbouring communities in Morocco, living in poverty.
With approximately 80% of women living in rural areas of Morocco being illiterate, I have chosen to raise money to help give Moroccan Girls the opportunity to receive an education and improve their futures.
Boarding a young girl in Morocco (providing food, shelter and education) costs £1015 per annum.
To put this in perspective, take a minute to calculate our cost of living for one year (or the cost of a night out at Salsa Fuego) and compare it to the figure above.
As a young lady who has been so lucky in life, I have chosen to raise funds for this cause as I believe strongly in the importance of education, something which I used to take for granted while growing up.
As well as this, any funds collected will also be distributed to other RIFCOM projects such as:
· Providing Basic Sanitation
· The “Ouslef School Project” and “Khezzane School Playground Project
· Creating a sources of income in the Rif region
· Forming a model for future sustainable development of the communities to ensure their long term growth.
The Challenge will involve trekking through the regions of the Atlas & Sahara on stony mountain trails for hours on end; at heights reaching 2500m in snow or serious weather conditions. I have been training intensely for the past few months as the Challenge will require me to display, among other things, stamina, tolerance and focus.
I would like to request your support in raising funds, by donating towards this worthy cause.
Alternatively, those who wish to make a donation by cash or cheque, can get in touch and I will be happy to arrange collection of your donation.
I would also like to thank all of you who have already taken the time to make a donation. I am truly grateful.
