I have just qualified as a children's nurse. The first patient (Patient A) I looked after during my training had just been diagnosed with cancer and was receiving treatment and support from the Royal Marsden. Family-centred care is an integral part of children's nursing and is something the Royal Marsden are very good at. The parents were given a folder full of information and treatment plans which helped them regain a little bit of control and gave them something to focus on.

Thankfully, Patient A is doing well. I managed to follow his progress throughout the three years of my training and was amazed at the strength and patience shown by him and his parents. They are a joy to work with. They are why I chose to run for the Royal Marsden's cancer charity. The Royal Marsden has challenged me to fight cancer by raising £2000 to support their pioneering treatments and research. Their work is so important it is worth me going through this hefty task for.

I say hefty task because....I haven't been running since 2009, I've only just obtained a pair of trainers and it took me nearly 3 hours to do a half marathon so I could be running for 6 hours or more...plus...I don't like running! (Unless it's part of a sport match such as rugby). Thousands of people apply to the London Marathon because they love running and want the challenge. I am not one of them so trust me when I say your sponsorship will be well earned!

So, that's the beginning. I'll post updates as I go along and will complete a special vlog at the finish line! xxx
