I was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2017 and while it initially came as a bit of a shock, I was determined to beat it.  

I under went nearly 15 months of treatment comprising of chemo, operation, radiotherapy and a hormone Herceptin drug, administered on a three weekly basis till just before Christmas 2018. I am still taking a tablet on a daily basis, that is the easy bit...when I remember! 

Parts of the treatment were gruelling but with the support of family and friends I got through it. I am now pleased to say that I am in remission and would like to give something back to Macmillan, to say thank you for being there, as and when I need their support. Not only for that cup of tea and chat but equally their support and friendship; amongst other services and treatments they had on offer. 

This is a goal that we, as a team want, to achieve, albeit a real challenge, and we are going to give it our best efforts; as Macmillan provides support for not only for individuals affected by cancer but also those family around them. 

Whilst, I was lucky enough to be well enough through my treatment, well most of the time, others are not so lucky.

All the people within our team, in alphabetical order, Bob Acton, Andy Carless, Ron Fox, Rod Nutbourne, Abi Nutbourne, Heather Nutbourne and Debby Osman have been affected by cancer; be it a close family member or a close friend. Many have lost family and friends to this dreadful illness. 

Cancer does not discriminate, so Ron Fox is walking for: 

• Those who fought bravely and no longer here to walk with us, 
• Those who have fought and won the battle, 
• Those who are unaware of the battle yet to come, 
• The family and friends of all those affected by Cancer.

Debby Osman lost her mum to bowel and then secondary liver cancer in 2016. Three years of trying to battle this awful disease has left Debby, along with thousands of others, with the need to do something to help find a cure. Macmillan nurses were there to support in the background throughout her mum’s illness and were a welcome support. Debby’s key objective is to help raise money for the vital research to help beat the disease. It is amazing how far cancer treatments and cures have progressed over recent years and by continuing the research it is hoped that there will be an absolute cure for all cancer types in the near future.
