Story

2022: Oban Lifeboat 50th Anniversary

There's been a lifeboat in Oban since 1972. At that time the crew had to change into sea-going clothing etc in a rented Council shed on the fishing pier.

All that time Oban Lifeboat has been entirely reliant on the generous support of the public as well as the volunteers who crew the boat. You can help us celebrate the first 50 years in Oban.

This page is dedicated to allowing you to send us a suggested donation for some of our 50th anniversary memorabilia items, including:

50th Anniversary Mug (suggested donation of £10 per mug, to include P&P)

- 50th Anniversary Enamel Badge - last few left (suggested donation of £12.50 per badge, to include P&P)

-50th Anniversary (2023) Calendar showing photographs of all the classes of boat stationed in Oban, in action, with card envelope. (donation of £10.00 inc p&p)

You can choose to 'hide' your name as a donor but don't forget to send an e-mail to us with your name and address.

Why should you donate to the RNLI?

In the UK and Ireland alone, 140 people die by accident in the water each year. Half of those who drown never intend on entering the water.

These are wasted lives; preventable deaths. And this needs to change. The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea.

In 2020, brave volunteer crew across Scotland launched to the rescue 1,071 times; that's an average of 3 launches each and every day of the year. Why? Because RNLI lifeboat crews are determined to save every one.

As a charity, the RNLI receives no government funding and needs to raise an average £155,000 per year to run just one lifeboat station each year.

With 46 lifeboat stations in Scotland, the RNLI relies on the support of its local communities to power its lifesaving service. Your donation to this page will help support the running of lifeboat stations in Scotland and, ultimately, help to save lives.
