TW: domestic violence/abuse

Due to the impact of COVID-19, our community service choir, BU Off Broadway, is unable to have our fundraising spring concert as planned. However, we are not going to let it stop us from trying to make a difference during this hard time. We will be releasing a series of videos of our members singing songs from our repertoire on social media and simultaneously raising money for the National Domestic Abuse Hotline to support their efforts to help those experiencing domestic abuse/violence. It is vital that they continue to receive the necessary funding to support their mission-- especially at a time when experts predict an increase of domestic abuse during this COVID-19 quarantine time. 

As stated on the National Domestic Abuse Hotline's website https://www.thehotline.org, 

"Avoiding public spaces and working remotely can help to reduce the spread of COVID-19, but for many survivors, staying home may not be the safest option. We know that any external factors that add stress and financial strain can negatively impact survivors and create circumstances where their safety is further compromised. 

Abuse is about power and control. When survivors are forced to stay in the home or in close proximity to their abuser more frequently, an abuser can use any tool to exert control over their victim, including a national health concern such as COVID-19. In a time where companies may be encouraging that their employees work remotely, and the CDC is encouraging “social distancing,” an abuser may take advantage of an already stressful situation to gain more control."
