Story

The team at O’Donnell Solicitors will be taking part in various events throughout the year to raise money and awareness of Maggie’s and we are sure you will agree that this is a worthy cause. James, Anthony and Suzzanne will be running in the gruelling Tour of Tameside four day running event in June of this year. The event sees entrants run Stage 1 the ‘X-Trail 10K on Thursday 15 June in Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks before moving onto Stage 2, on Friday evening, at the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ in Copley.

Stage 3 is Saturday morning where runners will take on the 13.1 mile ‘Hero Half Marathon’ down the Longendale Trail before the final day, Stage 4 on Sunday 18 June where the Tour will finish with the classic ‘Dr Ron 7’ – a seven-mile road run where many friends and family will line the route to welcome the competitors home. For more information on this extreme event see website http://northernrunningguide.com/news/tour-of-tameside-returns-for-2017

Each year O’Donnell Solicitors supports local charities and throughout 2017 will be raising money for the charity ‘Maggie’s’.

In 2016 The Maggie’s Centre in Oldham opened its doors for the first time. Maggie’s provides patients with accessible and free practical, emotional and social help and is situated within the grounds of the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The centres are staffed by Cancer Support Specialists, Benefits advisors, nutritionists, therapists and Phycologists who can provide help and support to patients. Having a Maggie’s Centre in Oldham allows those affected by cancer in our local communities to receive the care and support they deserve.

The first Maggie’s Centre opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and since then Maggie’s has continued to grow. There are now 19 Centres at major NHS Cancer hospitals within the UK, online and abroad. Maggie’s was created based on the belief of Maggie Keswick Jencks who lived with advanced cancer for two years. Maggie believed that people should not ‘lose the joy of living in the fear of dying’.
