Story

Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This year we will be raising some funds on behalf of the Overseas Fellowship of Nigerian Christians (OFNC) to support  Sickle Cell disease (SCD) research.

Sickle Cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that is common among people of African and Caribbean descent and produces symptoms such as chronic anaemia, unpredictable pain, fatigue and jaundice. According to official statistics, the prevalence of sickle cell is highest in sub-Saharan Africa and up to 230,000 affected children are born in this region every year (Rees et al, 2010). The money raised this year will be used towards funding research into improving the care for people with SCD and reducing the overall mortality rate.
