Tramping the Ridgeway - 9 MILES of it! · 20 September 2009

Our vision is that patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in our area can choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life. We provide 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care and support for all the family during the illness and through bereavement.

Story

Well we did it and not a burst bunion in sight.

The day started chilly and as we caught the last bus up to the start at Risborough school chatting with lots of fellow walkers all excited about the tramp ahead.

The queue of 1000 people trying to make it over the styles at the start of Whiteleaf hill slowed things up at the start but that was all to the good. We didn’t want to burn out early on.

Through the woodland, around Chequers, across the Wendover hills and up to the top of Combe Hill for a well earned  lunch break!

The organisation was terrific with bananas and chewy bars and sports drink available at each stop and well appreciated they were too.

We got to Wendover train station where many people we taking the bus back to Risborough feeling 5 miles up and down where plenty – but we were bursting with vim and vigour and took the bus onto Tring station where the second part and 4 miles waited to be conquered.

In the training walks the tramp from Tring station around Pitstone and up up UP Ivinghoe hadn’t seemed such a challenge but after our early efforts we slowed down and crawled (not quite literally) up the last knee cracking incline to break the crest of the beacon.

We did it! And not one person left behind in the wilderness!

Thanks to everyone that sponsored us – it was a lovely day. We felt we really achieved something –Iain Rennie are planning another event next year if anyone fancies coming along!
