We need £12.5 million to build a new hospice for Norfolk

Story

Hey, thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We're trekking the Grand Randonee 20 (GR20) in the first two weeks of June 2019. The GR20 is a footpath that traverses the Mediterranean island of Corsica and has been described as "one of the top treks in the world". The trek is 180 km long and takes in 19,000 metres of ascent and descent while travelling South East along the spine of Corsica. The Trek includes mountain ascents, high mountain passages, swinging rope bridge crossings, mountain scrambles and many miles of rugged trekking. Our Trek will be unsupported and we will be camping for the duration; carrying everything we need on our persons. The trek takes around 15 days and is rated as very difficult; requiring proficiency in navigation, equipment carriage, and nutrition over rugged terrain and varied climates.

The Trek will be fully funded by us and we're aiming to raise £1,000 for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice. They are dedicated to developing end of life care for Norfolk. The county desperately needs to expand its palliative care provision to meet the needs of a growing and ageing population. They are building a new 24-bed hospice, which will also act as a hub from which outreach work can be coordinated.

The Hospice is important to me as my Uncle Stephen spent his final days there in 2018. After an ongoing fight with cancer which he tackled with stoicism, humour and courage, he passed away just a few days before Christmas. The Hospice staff were amazing and showed incredible support and comfort to Stephen and his family during one of life’s biggest challenges. Stephen was discharged from his first stay which is a testament to his fighting spirit and a point worthy of note when our trek gets difficult.

Stephen was a keen sportsman and completed a number of athletic charitable events in his life for the benefit of others, so we feel that an epic adventure to raise money and remember Stephen is in order. 100% of the donations received will go to the hospice via this JustGiving page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The trek will take much preparation and will not be easy, this is the toughest trail in Europe afterall. It will be a true challenge for us and will test our bodies and minds to their limits. We will post regular updates throughout our journey and share our story, we ask that in return you donate what you can to help motivate us along the way.

Many thanks and much love,

Oli & Anna xxx
