About the Charity
Katharine House provides free hospice care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured.
Their aim is to enable their patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that's left.
Unfortunately my family has needed the hospices help and In very difficult and hard times they have been there as a light in dark places. As we watched loved ones slip away they were there to help us through.
The fact the hospice is so highly regarded in the local community is true testament to the amazing work they do and I couldn't be prouder to be raising money for such a fantastic organisation.
The Phillips' will be forever indebted.
The Challenge
Day 1
On the 19th May 2017 at 0600 I will be fell-running to the summit of Ben Nevis then descending to my waiting bike and cycling through the highlands before following the edge of Loch Lomond down to Glasgow and then hitting the 'flat' for the English border, stopping for the evening at Lesmahagow. Thats 137 miles and one mountain for Day 1.
Day 2
Awaking on my birthday the 20th May at 0600, I will cycle to the English border passing through Lockerbie before hitting English soil at Gretna. Cutting down through Carlisle and hitting the Lake District I will cut towards Scafell Pike, disembarking the wheels at Barrowdale, fell-running the summit before descending jumping back on the wheels and cutting down past Windermere arriving for the night at Carnforth. That's 161 miles and another mountain for Day 2.
Day 3
On Sunday the 21st, with very tired legs I will be cycling down through Lancaster, Preston, around Liverpool, nipping across the Welsh border at Chester before following the coast though, Conwy and Bangor before cutting inland and round to Snowdon for my final summit. Thats 152 miles and a final mountain for Day 3.
Summary
All together, that's 450 miles, exactly riding, 27 miles running up hill, 27 miles down and a cumulative elevation gained both on two feet and two wheels of appx 26,000 feet, just shy of Everest.
Training underway... It's a great cause, and it would mean the world to me if we could raise a significant number for a charity that relies solely on the generosity of individuals to provide the amazing care and support it does.
