Catton 12 Backyard Ultra Run · 8 May 2021

Changing Faces is the UK’s leading charity for everyone with a scar, mark or condition on their face or body.

Story

I am attempting what is called a Catton 12 Ultra run! This consists of a 12 hr run made up of 12 x 6.7Km runs adding up to 80Km - 50 miles in old money! I have never ran a Marathan never mind two in a day! I'm very much a hobbyist runner (Parkruns, runs to keep healthy etc).

The charity I have chosen, Changing Faces, I've experienced through my job as a Reconstructive Scientist at North Manchester and Leicester hospitals. Here we see patients for facial prosthetics and splinting treatments to help their rehabilitation after disfigurement through disease, trauma and congenital anomalies.

So Changing Faces is the UK's leading charity for everyone who has condition that makes them look different. Being different in a society where there is such pressure to look a certain way is tough. For over25 years Changing Faces have been providing advice and support, challenging discrimination, and campaigning for a world that respects difference. Striving for a future where everyone with a visible difference on their face or body has the confidence, support and opportunity to lead the lives they want.

My fundraising target is very modist, so lets see what can be achieved! This page is linked to my Strava page so you can keep updated on my training - I maybe should have given myself more than a month to prepare! On the day my Strava will update my progress!
