Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our son Oliver tragically passed away in his sleep in the autumn of 2015. Oliver made a huge impact on all those that he met.  A born entertainer, he was full of life and touched everyone with his kind and gentle nature. Oliver gave so many happy memories to his family and friends during his short life and he will be remembered with love always.

In 2016 I took up running for the first time at the age of 42 and I am aiming to run as many miles of races as I can to raise money in Oliver's memory for the Lullaby Trust.

Starting with the Reigate Half Marathon in 2016 and finishing with the London Marathon in 2018, I covered my first 100 miles of races around the UK. I plan to keep going for as long as the old legs hold out and the donations keep coming!

Every race is tough, as I was not really built for running long distance but I am always up for the challenge and look forward to running each step of the way with Oliver.

The Lullaby Trust provides specialist support for bereaved families, promotes expert advice on safer baby sleep and raises awareness on sudden infant death. It is known that around 1 in 1000 otherwise healthy babies may die suddenly and unexpectedly in their sleep, with no definite cause found even after a thorough investigation and this phenomenon is known as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or ‘cot-death’.

This is the commonest group of deaths in childhood of children without known underlying medical problems and much research has been carried out to try and find the cause of cot-death. However, whilst much less common, it is not widely appreciated that children aged more than one year may also suffer from a similar condition, termed sudden unexpected death in childhood or SUDC.

In contrast to SIDS there is hardly any research investigating SUDC. In collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Lullaby Trust has set up a specialist centre to pioneer the much needed research into SUDC.
